Notifications

To access this settings page, go to Super Subscriptions > Settings > Notifications


Customizing your email templates lets you control the branding and wording of every notification sent to customers and staff. You must verify a sender email before editing any subjects or body text. Each notification can be toggled on or off in the main Notifications settings.

Verify sender email


You must verify a sender email address before you can edit any template text.


  1. Go to the Notifications settings page.
  2. Enter the email you want to send from and click Verify.
  3. Open the confirmation email and follow the link to verify your address.

Once verified, a Verified badge appears next to your email and template editing is unlocked.


Customize branding and labels


From Super Subscriptions > Settings > Notifications > Customer notifications > Customize email templates, you can adjust the look and common wording used across all emails.


  • Upload a logo and choose an accent color.
  • Pick a preferred font.
  • Edit global labels like Manage subscription or View cart to match your brand voice.


Customer email templates


These templates are sent to your subscribers and can be toggled on or off.


  • Subscription started

Sent when a new subscription is purchased.

  • Subscription restarted

Sent when a paused subscription is reactivated.

  • Subscription paused

Sent when a subscription is paused.

  • Subscription cancelled

Sent when a subscription is cancelled.

  • Renewal failed (customer issue)

Sent when the renewal payment fails because of a customer problem.

  • Renewal failed (merchant issue)

Sent when the renewal cannot be processed due to a merchant issue.

  • Subscription failed

Sent when the subscription contract cannot be created.

  • Subscription renewed

Sent when a renewal order is successfully processed.

  • Next billing date changed

Sent when the next billing date is updated.

  • Out of stock

Sent when a renewal is skipped because an item is out of stock.

  • Price updated

Sent when the subscription price changes.

  • Subscription updated

Sent when subscription details like products or quantity change.

  • Upcoming renewal

Sent before the next charge to remind the customer of the upcoming renewal.

  • Portal login link

Sent when a customer requests a link to manage their subscription.


Customize customer email text


You can add custom HTML to the email body texts


Edit the Subject and Body text fields for each customer template. Variables like {{ shop_link }} and {{ next_billing_date }} insert dynamic information. The preview panel updates as you type so you can see the final email design.


Merchant email templates


These notifications are sent to the administrator email associated with your Shopify account. These can also be toggled on or off.


  • New subscription

Sent when a new subscription is created.

  • Paused subscription

Sent when a subscription is paused.

  • Cancelled subscription

Sent when a subscription is cancelled.

  • Failed renewal (customer issue)

Sent when a renewal payment fails because of a customer issue.

  • Failed renewal (merchant issue)

Sent when a renewal fails due to a merchant or store issue.

  • Failed subscription

Sent when the subscription creation fails.

  • Out of stock

Sent when an upcoming renewal cannot process due to stock issues.

  • Upcoming renewals

Sent before the day's renewals are processed.
