How to change the subscription policy text on the product page

When you choose a subscription option in the app, you might see some text appear below the purchase buttons. Shopify includes this to ensure customers clearly understand they are starting a subscription with your online store. While this default message is helpful, you may want to customize it to better reflect your store’s terms or use your own wording. This guide will walk you through the steps to modify that text easily.

The policy typically states: "This item is a recurring or deferred purchase. By continuing, I agree to the cancellation policy and authorize you to charge my payment method at the prices, frequency and dates listed on this page until my order is fulfilled or I cancel, if permitted."

How to adjust the subscription policy text

The wording of this policy text is managed by your online store theme, not the Super Subscriptions app. You can easily customize it using your theme’s language editor. Follow the steps below to make the necessary changes:

  1. In your Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store.

  1. In your active theme, click the three dots button and select Edit default theme content.

  1. In the search box, type the beginning of your policy text (e.g. "This item is a recurring or deferred").

  1. Edit the text as needed, making sure you are targeting the instance on the product page, as similar text may appear elsewhere in your theme.

The text variable {{ cancellationPolicyLink }} must be included for the new policy text to work.

  1. Save your changes.

  1. Check if the text has correctly updated in your online store.
