Creating Subscription Invitations (Quick subscribe links)

Quick subscribe links let merchants build a prefilled subscription checkout URL that includes a selected selling plan and one or more product variants. Use these links to create storefront buttons, marketing links, or emailed invitations that take customers straight to a subscription checkout with the right products and plan applied.

Overview

Quick subscribe links build a checkout URL that pre-selects:

  • A selling plan (subscription option)
  • A list of product variants (with quantities)

The generated URL can be copied, used as a storefront button/link, or sent to a customer via the built-in email invitation.

  • Workaround for a Shopify limitation: subscription contracts can only be started from the app for existing customers. Quick subscribe links let you prepare a subscription checkout for any shopper — existing or new — and are useful for sending invitations or creating direct-purchase links on the storefront.
  • Create buttons or links on your website that open a checkout prefilled with specific product combinations and the desired selling plan.
  • Quickly share a prebuilt subscription checkout via copy/paste or email without building a separate storefront flow.

How it works (high level)

  1. Choose a subscription option (selling plan).
  2. Add product variants via the Resource Picker.
  3. The app validates each product's selling-plan group membership and flags incompatibilities.
  4. Generate a checkout URL which encodes the chosen variants and selling plan.
  5. Copy the URL or send it to a selected customer using the email invitation modal.

  1. Open the app and navigate to Contracts → Create Subscription Contracts → Quick subscribe links.
  2. Select a "Subscription option" from the dropdown; this selects the selling plan the checkout will use.
  3. Click Add products and choose variants using the Resource Picker. Each selected variant becomes an item in the invitation.
  • If any product is incompatible with the selected subscription option, a critical banner appears for that product and generation is blocked until the issue is resolved.
  1. (Optional) Pick an existing customer — this enables address autofill and the Send email invitation flow.
  2. Click Generate checkout link. When ready the URL appears in a read-only field.
  3. Use Copy URL to paste into your theme (button/link href) or click Send email invitation to email the link to the selected customer.

Notes & tips

  • The generated link opens a subscription checkout with the selected variants and selling plan applied.
  • Use the URL as an href for a storefront button to give customers a one-click subscription experience.
  • Selecting a customer will prefill address options and enable email invites; the link will still work for anonymous shoppers but won’t prefill customer details.
  • The page prevents duplicate variants from being added to a single invitation.
  • Any change to products, selling plan, or customer clears a previously generated URL — regenerate after edits.

Common use cases

  • Marketing: create landing pages with "Subscribe now" buttons that open a prefilled subscription checkout.
  • Support: send a link to a customer who requests an exact subscription bundle.
  • Email campaigns: include prebuilt subscription checkout links in newsletters or promotions.

Troubleshooting

  • "Generate checkout link" is disabled: ensure at least one variant and a subscription option are selected and no selected products are incompatible.
  • Product marked incompatible: ensure the product/variant is assigned to the same selling plan group as the selected subscription option in Subscription Plans.
  • Email invites failing: confirm the selected customer has a valid email address and that your store’s email settings allow sending notifications.
